ANSWER: The VIC ROADS drive test check is to see if you're ready to drive safely on your own with other traffic on public roads in Melbourne. You must pass the drive test to get a Victorian driver licence. Please note, drive-test fees remain and are not included as part of the Motorist Package and Safe Driver Program.

Before your appointment, please ensure you have:
Completed and declared your 120 hours (if applicable)
Completed and passed your Hazard Perception Test
Ensure you have selected a testing vehicle that meets all Drive Test criteria.

Q. CAN I USE MY OWN CAR FOR THE VIC ROADS DRIVING TEST?
Answer: A car or vehicle fitted with an electronic or foot operated parking brake cannot be used for solo driving tests.

Answer: A car or vehicle fitted with an electronic or foot operated parking brake cannot be used for solo driving tests.
how many hours of driving do I need?
ANSWER: Your require 120 hours (60 hours) of supervised driving including 20 hours of night time (between sunset and sunrise). Night driving must be in dark conditions, when headlights are required to drive safely.
QUESTION: What are the main reasons for failing your driving test in Melbourne?
Immediate driving termination errors include the followinf:
- Disobeying or failure to abide to directions (three times)
- Collision or impact with another vehicle
- Not giving way, failing to yield
- Speeding, going too fast, above the speed limit
- Driving through a red light or a stop sign

A further 18% of driving test fails are due to critical errors, where the driver creates a dangerous situation that does not result in immediate risk of collision or injury.

HOW DO I CONVERT AN overseas DRIVING licence?
Drivers can temporarily drive on their overseas driving licence in Melbourne as long as it is valid for upto 6 months.
However, if you plan on living in Melbourne for more than six months you'll need to convert your overseas licence or permit to a Victorian licence but it must be in date otherwise you will have to take the driving lessons and driving tests.
